This is CT study showing a large, well defined mass in the neck, located anteriorly / anterolaterally from the midline to the right side – it is intimately related to and likely arising from the right thyroid gland. The mass is heterogeneous and contains calcified / osseous, fatty, cystic and soft tissue attenuation elements. It exerts mass effect on the adjacent trachea and displaces it posteriorly and to the left.
The features of this mass are characteristic for a teratoma. I would convey the findings to the referring physician and recommend surgical referral and discussion at surgical MDT.
Question:
What is the usual treatment in these cases?
Surgical excision.
