DICOM: What Sets Us Apart

Our integrated DICOM viewer is what separates us from the rest. But why, what is DICOM?

DICOM stands for “Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine,” and is the main image file format used by radiological hardware devices the world over for modalities such as radiography, ultrasonography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and radiation therapy.

Unlike other image file formats such as JPEG, TIFF or PNG, DICOM groups information into interactive data sets, providing you, the user, with the ability to measure, stack, zoom, pan, rotate and flip images. Called window-level presets, these tools are designed to help you improve the accuracy and speed of your diagnoses.

In addition to being used in most hospitals, DICOM is used in the FRCR exam in the rapid reporting and long case sections.

This is why we at FRCR Longs went the extra mile in incorporating a DICOM viewer into our website. Our goal is to provide you with a study experience that simulates the FRCR 2B exam as closely as possible, so that you may familiarize yourself with the window-level presets and better optimize your exam score.

Happy studying!
